Peter Bevan - Criminal, Litigation & Family Lawyer

Peter has been a lawyer since 1987 and has practised in Queanbeyan, Southern and Central New South Wales and Canberra since 1989. Holding specialist qualifications as a Law Society Accredited Specialist, Peter offers more knowledge, experience and expertise then most Canberra lawyers in general practice. He has been a NSW Law Society Accredited Specialisation in both Criminal Law and Personal Injury Law for over twenty years, but due to changes in workload, he now maintains his Specialisation solely in Criminal Law.

Peter has over thirty years’ experience in criminal law, varying from simple traffic matters before Magistrates to conducting jury trials for serious criminal offences and arguing appeals to a panel of Judges in Courts of Appeal. He is a member of Legal Aid panels, both in NSW and the ACT, including the specialist NSW Legal Aid Serious Crime panel.

Peter is the only qualified Criminal Law specialist in the Queanbeyan region and is one of only two in private practice in Canberra.

Rachel Bevan - Licensed Conveyancer

Rachel is a Licensed Conveyancer specialising in property law. She attained her Licensed Conveyancer qualifications at Macquarie University and has over 25 years’ conveyancing experience. Rachel was the first Licensed Conveyancer in Queanbeyan and is also a Justice of the Peace. Her main work areas include:

Leanne is a Conveyancing Paralegal working together with Rachel Bevan. Leanne has over 25 years’ experience in NSW, ACT and Queensland conveyancing.

 

Luke Vozella - Criminal, Litigation & Family Lawyer

Luke joined Bevan & Co Lawyers & Conveyancers in early 2017 to practise mainly in criminal and family law. He is from the Canberra region and attended Marist College Canberra between 2002 -2007, where he graduated as Dux with the highest UAI of a Marist student in 2007. Luke completed degrees in Arts/Law at the Australian National University between 2008-2012 and 2008-2014 respectively. He went on to complete a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (With Merit) before being admitted as a lawyer of the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory in 2015.

Luke is admitted to the register of practitioners of the High Court of Australia and qualified to appear in all Australian courts. He is a panel member of Criminal Law and Family Law panels for Legal Aid in both NSW and the ACT and assists legal aided clients through the Queanbeyan Court legal aid roster as duty solicitor.  Luke has broad experience as a family and criminal law advocate, having appeared before the Federal Circuit Court and Family Court of Australia and the Magistrates and Local Courts, District Court and Supreme Courts of the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales.  He has variously instructed in jury trials and conducted matters as counsel at final hearings, defended hearings, committal hearing and sentence and bail proceedings. Beyond his court work, Luke often negotiates the withdrawal and reduction of criminal charges and participates in successful mediation conferences in disputes about custody of children and property.

Luke’s proven dedication in achieving success in his education continues in his approach to legal practice. He has a pragmatic, outcomes-based approach to legal practice and his clients appreciate his dedication to their matters and his no-nonsense and straightforward style. Sarah graduated from the Australian National University in 2018 with a Bachelor of International Relations and a Bachelor of Laws with Honours, having written a thesis on the criminal law of human trafficking.
